4 things you can do to prevent heart disease: 

Starting at age 40.
1) Do Not Smoke
2) Light to moderate exercise (15    
minutes) 3 times per week!
3) 3-6 servings of vegetables per week!
4) Stay off of blood pressure medication (long term side effect cause heart disease)

Relationship between inflammation in the blood and cardiovascular disease.. Ask your doctor for a HS-CRP test which measure the inflammation in your blood.  A measurement of 1 indicates low levels of inflammation. A measurement of 3 doubles your risk of dyeing from heart disease. Also, cholesterol can not stick to your artery walls with out inflammation present in the body.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Increase levels of vitamin -C
Eat more fruits and vegetables
Take B-Complex, (B-6, B-12, and folic acid) also lowers homosystiene levels which is another factor in heart disease.(Source Jan McBarron, M.D.)
